Most people type words much faster than numbers, because the number row is far from the home row and many typists never learned it. This test mixes numbers into the text.
Each number needs a reach of two rows. Without practice you look down at the keys, lose your place and slow down. Typists who learn the number row usually lose very little speed when numbers appear.
| Finger | Numbers |
|---|---|
| Left little finger | 1 |
| Left ring finger | 2 |
| Left middle finger | 3 |
| Left index finger | 4 and 5 |
| Right index finger | 6 and 7 |
| Right middle finger | 8 |
| Right ring finger | 9 |
| Right little finger | 0 |
Practise with lessons 9 and 10 in the typing lessons. If you work with figures a lot, take the data entry typing test too.
The number row is far from the home row, and most people have not practised it.
Use whichever you will use at work. The keypad is faster for long lists of numbers, the number row is better for mixed text.
Usually you will score a little lower than on the normal test, because numbers take longer to type.
