Free typing lessons
Fifteen short lessons that take you from the home row to typing full sentences without looking at the keys. Each lesson takes about ten minutes, and each has a goal, so you know when to move on.
The lessons
How the lessons work
You start with the four keys under each hand, then add one row at a time. Each lesson is a typing test with its own practice text, a picture of the keyboard and a speed and accuracy goal. When you reach the goal, the lesson gets a tick and the page offers the next one. Your progress is saved in this browser. No account is needed.
Before you start
- Sit upright with your feet on the floor and your wrists level with the keyboard.
- Rest your fingers on the home row: A S D F on the left, J K L ; on the right. The bumps on F and J help you find the place without looking.
- Keep your eyes on the screen. It feels wrong at first. Persist, and it becomes natural within a few days.
- Practise ten minutes a day instead of an hour once a week.
How long will it take?
Most people finish the 15 lessons in two to four weeks of short daily practice. After that you can keep improving with the typing tests and the 30 day practice plan.
