This is the first step of touch typing. You will learn the four keys under your left hand: A, S, D and F.
Rest the little finger of your left hand on A, the ring finger on S, the middle finger on D and the index finger on F. Feel the small raised bump on F. Every typist finds the home row by that bump, so you will never have to look down to find it.
Let your thumbs hover over the space bar. Press each key with the tip of the finger, then let the finger return to its home key. Your wrist stays level and still. Only the fingers move.
Watch for this: The most common mistake is using the index finger for every key. Keep each key for its own finger, even when it feels slower at first.
Type the practice text above at 10 WPM or faster with 90% accuracy or better. When you reach it, the page tells you and the lessons page puts a tick next to this lesson. If you miss it, try again a little slower. A clean run beats a fast one.
